Christmas Present

I finally have an update!  Christmas has come and gone. The best husband in the world, mine, got me a new motor for my bus!!!

It's a 1776 with a 110 cam. Soon I will be able to keep up with the Jones's on hills. :D I get to put the rest of it together! First thing to do is find all the engine tin and get it cleaned up and painted. I already went and bought some new nuts and bolts, and the needed gaskets.

I will be updating the blog after each step of the build!! Stay tuned…….

Free bird.

 Just a small update.

My lino. was starting to come up on the edges so I bought some aluminum angle pieces and took care of the problem.

A friend of mine also made me the last wood panel piece to finish off behind the passenger seat next to the sink. I just need to stain it.

I also figured out who has been pooping on my mirror. LOL

Not sure what he wants inside the bus but he keeps doing this over and over. He will fly away for a bit, then come back and do it again.

Clutch issue and new bumper

Shortly after installing the DP motor I started hearing a noise while the clutch was pushed in. Once released, I thought the noise went away. I had hubby listen to it and he thought he still heard it either way, so we chalked it up to just a noise in the motor. I kept driving it for a few more weeks when this last Friday while in a drive thru I noticed it acting different. It started to chatter when first taking off and also seemed like it wanted to jump into gear when going into second. So I asked hubby if we could put it on the lift at his work so I could check the clutch cable. I figure this being the 3rd cable, maybe it was starting to fray. Once up on the lift we noticed that the throw out bearing arm was coming out of the tranny.

Here is a look at it when we first pulled the motor.

This is it after hubby tapped it back to where it was supposed to be.

The cir clip had came out of its grove allowing the arm to float back and forth. Which caused my noise I was hearing.

After fixing that we finally got to put my new bumper on. Here is a before pic.

After.  Got rid of the ugly rust spot and now has bumper guards.

New Armrest.

Wow, 2 updates so close together. LOL

I recently bought a set of seats out of a Euro van because they had armrests, and I thought it would be neat to have armrests. After test fitting them in my friends bus, I decided I didn't think I would like them. So they are now in the rafters. Then I came up with the idea of just making my own armrests and installing them in my bus some how. My plan was going to consist of an armrest and maybe a bar that went down to the seatbelt bolt. Hubby came up with the idea of using an armrest off of one of the handicap scooter aka Lark. We had a set from one of his Mom's old Larks. After looking at them he figured out a way to connect them to the bus and today we did just that. :D

So here is what he came up with. Of course the paint job is all me and I put the tie dyed cover on it. :D

I want to eventually do the same thing to the passenger side, but hubby thinks it is good enough like this for now. I just think it would look more complete with the other side done too. Will make it kind of tight to walk through, but it would still be doable.

New Bumper

Today we R&R'd the front bumper.

Before

                                                                 After

Just an artsy shot I took while laying on the creeper.

This is my new (old) camp light. A friend was cleaning out his Dad's garage and gave me the light. It has all the original papers with it. I don't think they ever used it.

VW Invasion Car Show

Just a small update. I finally broke down and bought a new set of sunvisors.

Before

                                                                            After

Also found me a skim board for my display

This last Sunday Sept. 29th 2013 I went to the VW Invasion car show.

While there, I found a cool camping set.

It has 3 cups, 3 bowls, a pot, a frying pan, and a can opener. Perfect for keeping in the bus. Packs nice and small.

Also found remakes of the cook KZAP sticker. I have an original sticker on my 64 bus. I now have the remake (which is exactly the same as the original) on my bus and got one for Bob's 69 Panel bus. :D

Ok, that's all for now. :D Hope to sneak in some camping here soon. Weather is changing so not sure how easy it will be to convince Bob (hubby) into going. LOL Will give it a good try though.

Humbugs VW Show and Busfest

Finally did our first long mile car show and camping trip! We traveled roughly 600 miles, give or take a few, this last weekend Aug 9-11th. We went to the Humbugs VW Show in McKinleyville CA.
This is a pic of my hubby's 64 bus. He lead the way.

We found a shoe tree along the way.

Kind of got off track, went down this dirt road. NOT. LOL We actually stopped on the side of the road and I thought it would be fun to back up the hill a bit and then take pics. LOL

Stopped for a rest in the woods.

We were originally going to stay at Clam Beach, but after arriving there we didn't like what we saw. The price was not agreeing with us either. So after a short drive down the road we found a nice little RV Park. They only charged us 20 bucks to park in the tent area.

Watching a movie that night! The headbanger shelf came in hand for hanging the iPad from. Made a great way to watch and lay in bed!

The view out the window of the place we ate breakfast the next morning.

 At the VW Show.
Thought this was kind of cool. A widened 69 bug. Has a big V8 motor in it.

My bus won Best Type 2 Late Model!!!
Bob's won Crusty Love! :D

After the show we decided to head to Antioch to catch Busfest. We made it about 30 miles out and decided to get a hotel for the night. Bob's bus doesn't lock so he tied the passenger and driver doors together and then had me pull my bus as close as I could so people couldn't open the side doors. :D

The next day we headed to Busfest.

We met our friend Dewey there. That is his bus in between mine and Bob's.
I kind of like this bus. :D

After Busfest we followed Dewey back to Sacramento. Then home.

On the Ferry

We had a good time and it was pretty much an uneventful trip for the buses.  We only had a problem with Bob's bus leaking some oil, but if he didn't push it going down the road, it did ok and didn't lose much oil. Then mine lost it's power to the power source for my accessories and my dome lights. Didn't get that figured out till just today. Ended up being a wire that fell off the back of the fuse panel. I'm having a friend come over in the next day or so to work on my fuse panel to insure this doesn't happen again. For now I have it fixed so all works again.

Looking forward to another camping trip.
